Scientific Name: Averrhoa carambola
Common Name: Carambola, starfruit, Karmaranga, Dharapuli
Climate and soil requirement
The carambola is a tropical and subtropical fruit which can be grown at elevations up to 1,200 metres (4,000 feet). It prefers full sun exposure, but requires enough humidity and annual rainfall of at least 1,800 mm. It does not have a soil type preference, but will thrive in loamy and requires good drainage. Moderate irrigation supports its growth during dry seasons. Heavy rains may inhibit fruit production.
Land preperation
Pits of size 60×60×60cm should be dug at a distance of 7m x 7 m Leave for 15-20 days exposing to sunlight. Each pit should be filled with surface soil mixed with 15 kg farm yard manure before planting the grafted plants.
