Climate and soil requirement
Egg fruit plant thrive in a tropical and subtropical environment. Annual rainfall of 630-800 mm is ideal for its growth. Annual temperature of 26°c to 37°c is favorable, it can tolerate mild frost and rainfall between 900-1800mm. It grows well in maritime areas, where it shows good wind resistance but susceptible to drought conditions. It can tolerate wide range of soil types, including sandy and heavy clay soils. The young plant up to the age of 3 years should be protected from hot wind during May-June and from frost during winter months. The mature plants can tolerate freezing temperature as well as a high temperature.
Land preperation
Dig pits of 1x1x1m during May-June at a distance of 7 m x 7 m Leave for 15-20 days exposing to sunlight. Each pit should be filled with surface soil mixed with 15 kg farm yard manure before planting the grafted plants.
